Improve Your Enjoyment Of Gardening By Getting A Wheelbarrow

I discovered how you can improve your enjoyment of gardening by getting a wheelbarrow

It is remarkable how we can struggle on for years doing the things we do in the way we have always done and then suddenly make a discovery that can change how we do things and make our lives much easier. My recent ‘aha moment’ was when I discovered how you can improve your enjoyment of gardening by getting a wheelbarrow.

Hard To Justify Getting A Wheelbarrow

Like lots of other gardeners I have never owned a wheelbarrow before. I had always thought my garden too small to justify getting a wheelbarrow and I had always associated them with men digging holes in the road or working on building sites.

I don’t spend a lot of time doing large landscaping works in my garden and most of the stuff I have to carry around my garden is fairly light in weight. A bucket full of pruning or weeds doesn’t weigh so much and I never felt the need for a wheelbarrow to make my gardening easier.

I am getting on in years now and bending and carrying has become more of a challenge and does lead to the odd ache and pain when I have spend an afternoon weeding or digging but I like to think I am still fairly active and mobile so when a friend said how useful a wheelbarrow was around the garden I didn’t pay too much attention.

However, when a friend offered to come over and help with a lot of cutting back I was planning I was glad of the company and when they turned up they brought their own wheelbarrow.

Carting Waste Cuttings Is So Much Easier

I was a little surprised but thought no more of it until the time when we were working together and making use of the wheelbarrow. Wow! I could not believe how much easier it made life. Carting prunings to the compost area was just so much easier and you could take so much more at a time.

It had never occurred to me before just how much time I spent walking backwards and forwards to the compost bin. With the wheelbarrow I made about a quarter of the number of trips and it was almost effortless to wheel the barrow along. My back and my bones were most appreciative and that might have been the first day of gardening in quite a while when my back did not lock up at the end of the day.

I Suggest You Consider Getting A Wheelbarrow

If you don’t have a garden wheelbarrow then I suggest you seriously consider getting one. You may have all sorts of reasons and excuses why you don’t need one, as I previously had, but I think a wheelbarrow is one of those things that you can only really appreciate once you have it and you will then wonder how you ever managed without a wheelbarrow in your garden. High Output Designer Radiator

Space is always at a premium in most modern homes and my kitchen is no exception. All the old units have been ripped out and replaced and the maximum number of kitchen units and kitchen appliances have been installed. Unfortunately this didn’t leave a lot of wall space to the fit a radiator.

I have always considered the kitchen to be the heart of the home. It’s a place where the family meet and congregate so I want it to be warm and comfortable to spend time in. I had a small breakfast bar fitted and I want to be warm and comfortable when I am sitting there enjoying my morning cup of coffee. I love to sit and look out of the window watching the birds enjoying breakfast at my garden bird feeder.

So what is the solution to heating the kitchen when you are  short of wall space? A vertical designer radiator was the perfect solution to heating my kitchen and enabling me to use the maximum number of wall kitchen units.

There was space next to the back door but it was only about three feet wide and being next to the door it couldn’t have a unit fitted there but it was perfect for a vertical designer radiator. I had considered the standard central heating radiators but they just look so ordinary and I wanted something to fit in with my stylish new kitchen.

I spent ages looking at designer radiators but they all have a relatively low heat output compared to regular radiators. I needed about 1500 watts to heat the kitchen and many of the designer radiators offered only eight or nine hundred watts so I was beginning to wonder if a vertical designer radiator would be the right solution but then I discovered just what I wanted.

The Bora designer radiator is a 1600 mm tall by 318 mm wide. Thats a little over 5ft by just under 1ft wide for those of us who still struggle visualising metric measurements. It comes in either a white, black or Anthracite colour finsih which is powder coated so should last as long as the radiator which is apparently made of Aluminium so the radiator should last longer than I do but it comes with a 15 year guarantee anyway so no worries about the longetivity of it.

The best thing, apart from the stylish look of the Bora radiator is the high heat output. It is rated at 1,572 Watts (5,360 BTUs) which is pefect for my needs. It is a remarkably high heat output because it is smaller than many alternative modern style designer ratiators with a much lower heat output. Clearly clever design is at work here while keeping the smooth contemporary look. I chose the Anthracite coloured radiator as this fits in perfectly with my grey, or light black, and cream coloured kitchen.

I am very pleased with my final choice and it just goes to show how important it is to take the time researching to find exactly what you want when buying things for the home. Coloured Water From Your Taps

I have seen taps which appear to colour water on TV. What they actually do is turn on a coloured LED light when you turn on the tap and the beam of light is transmitted through the water making the water look as though it is coloured. These taps can be extremely expensive but they can add a very stylish look to your kitchen or bathroom.

When I was browsing the web the other day, I wondered how these lights in your taps could be powered. Water and electricity do not make a good combination and I assumed that they were mains powered and consequently extremely expensive and difficult to install since they would require both a plumber and an electrician. In my research I discovered, to my surprise, that you can convert your taps with an inexpensive add-on which gives the same effect.

There are a few types these fittings and some appear to require a tiny battery while others are powered by the stream of water running through the tap. Most of them offer two colours. Blue for cold water and red when the water coming out of the tap is above a certain temperature. There are a few that offer more colours and you can also get some multicoloured shower attachments that should make bath time fun for the children or anyone else who enjoys a bit of light hearted fun.

I was struck by how cheap these fittings can be. I saw one for £7.50 though, to be fair, the reviews were not brilliant to say the least. A typical price for a two coloured water tap attachment seems to be around £10 which is pretty cheap for anything these days.

These fittings seem to be fairly new on the market but I can imagine they will be a popular Christmas present in the months ahead. I shall definitely be getting one of the tap fittings and I rather fancy coloured water from the shower as well. It may be pointless and just a bit of fun but why not add a little fun to your life and you can be sure it will make your visitors smile when they see coloured water coming out of your tap.
